Hot Rods and Their Era
Hot rods are cars that have been built up and worked on in order to make it perform better. One of the first places to embrace this type of automotive culture was the state of California, in the United States, and it grew out from there over the next few years. This particular era extended 20 years, from 1945 until the beginning of the muscle cars, which began to be released in 1965. Cars that were manufactured prior to 1942 did not have very durable gears. As a result, by the time hot rods started being introduced, they were affordable since the body would be purchased at a very low price, and these were referred to as “vintage tin”. Constructing these hot rods mandated that an individual possess certain types of skills. Mechanic skills, design skills, welding and body work skills are all fairly necessary in the individual, or different skills in a team of people that are working on a particular project. Without these skills it can be much more difficult and time consuming. Some people still prefer to take on the hot rods in the form of a project in order to begin to learn about the basic skills that are required.
By the time muscle cars came out, hot rods began to die out. There were two main reasons for this decline. First, individuals were beginning to run out of vintage tin pieces. The height of hot rods occurred in 1955, and since then it had become progressively more difficult to come across them. However, this drop in popularity was also due to the fact that manufacturers were coming up with cars and designs that were more powerful right out of the factory, and needed very little customization in order to improve them considerably.
Despite the hot rod era having died out in 1965, they are still popular as a certain cultural accommodation. This is especially true when it comes to the United States and Sweden. Still, the individuals involved in these activities are segregated into two different groups, which are made up of the street rods and the hot rods. The difference between these two groups is related to the ways in which the people go about building up their cars. Hot rods are made up of vintage parts and with the basic 1940’s design ideas. On the other hand, street rods use more modern pieces when they build their vehicles.
